Passengers in a matatu plying Kangundo Road were on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, forced to cut their trip short after a female passenger died in the vehicle.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the lady who was unresponsive was noticed by a male passenger who was alighting at Kayole junction.
The male passenger informed the tout who alerted the driver. Following the outcome of events, the driver drove to a nearby health facility where the lady was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“On reaching Kayole junction, one passenger who was alighting informed the conductor that a passenger seated next to him, an adult female seemed unresponsive. The driver drove to Ruai Family Hospital where she was confirmed dead,” the police report read in part.
The deceased who was reportedly heading to Ruai boarded the matatu at a bus station stage in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) at around 4.33 pm.
Her body was moved to the City Mortuary awaiting identification and an autopsy.
Househelp dies after being choked by sweet potato
In a separate incident in Kamulu, police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old house help who allegedly died after being choked by a sweet potato as she was taking breakfast.
Police say that the deceased identified as Lilian Muthoni was found dead with a cup of tea in her hand and a piece of sweet potato in her mouth.
“The police established that the deceased Lilian Muthoni aged 50 was taking breakfast and it is believed that she was choked by the foodstuff,” the police report stated.
The body of the deceased was moved to Mama Lucy hospital awaiting postmortem.
