A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer was on Saturday shot dead while another was left injured after armed bandits attacked the Oldonyiro KWS field station in Isiolo county.
While confirming the incident, Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omonding said the perpetrators who ambushed the officers as they were preparing dinner are believed to have come from Laikipia.
The attackers then broke into an armoury and stole three firearms and several rounds of ammunition before firing several rounds of ammunition outside a nearby office that belonged to a local administrator.
Officers from Oldonyiro station engaged in a shoot chasing them away from the station.
Omonding affirmed that more resources including security personnel have been mobilised to beef up security in the area as they pursue the bandits.
“We will ruthlessly deal with anyone who was involved in the crime. We will track past happenings in the area to establish if there are any possible links and take appropriate action,” he stated.
