BBC journalist Ciru Muriuki is offering her take on ailing boxer Conjestina Achieng after her photo went viral raising serious concerns about her well-being.

The former legendary female boxer in heart-wrecking photos appeared to be forgotten, and her son Charlton Otieno said his mother is on the brink of sinking even deeper.

According to him, he believes his mother needs prayers this time around and not psychiatric treatment.

Taking to Facebook, Ciru weighed in on the news and dismissed a prophet’s role, in this case, insisting that the former star needs long-term inpatient psychosocial therapy and support.

“Conjestina doesn’t need sijui prophets. She needs long-term, inpatient psychosocial therapy and support,” Ciru Muriuki wrote on Facebook.

Psychosocial therapy helps people healthily reiterate in society and develop the social, emotional, and intellectual skills they need to live happily with the smallest amount of professional assistance they can manage.

In most cases, psychosocial interventions are used for issues of social disorders, substance abuse cessation, and relapse prevention.

After the disturbing viral news, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to her rescue and offered to honour her son’s plea to take Conjestina to Mtumishi prophetess Mary Kagendo for prayers.

Sonko offered to help Conjestina

Mike Sonko, who has helped the sickly boxer before to seek mental treatment, has once again offered to assist Conjestina after her photo went viral on social media.

“Good Morning, fellow Kenyans. I’m truly saddened by this Whatsapp message from Conjestina’s son. Our leaders are busy campaigning while one of our shujaas who once made this country proud is currently languishing in poverty and needs help due to her ill health.

“I have singlehandedly helped her before, taken her to various hospitals and rehabilitation centres including Nairobi County rehabilitation centre in Parklands, Diani Beach among others where she gets full recovery and discharged than when she gets back to shags after a while gets worse again,” Sonko wrote in part on Facebook.

The former Nairobi governor further said that Conjestina’s son Charlton Otieno told him that he believes his mother needs prayers this time, not psychiatric treatment.

Sonko offered to take the sickly boxer to prophetess Mary Kagendo for prayers. He dispatched his team to Siaya to facilitate Conjestina’s movement.

“Through her Son, the family believes she needs prayers and proposes taking her to Pastor Ezekiel. They have been appealing for help, but none of our leaders have heeded their cry.

“However, despite my busy court schedule and tribulations, I have decided to continue helping her, including taking her to Mtumishi prophetess Mary Kagendo for prayers. I am just now dispatching a car with my team to Siaya to facilitate her movement, and I’m also humbly appealing to any well-wisher willing to help tusaidiane sote kwa huyu shujaa in any little ways we can through the son Charlton,” Sonko wrote.
