A section of Trans Nzoia County residents now want George Natembeya disqualified from the Trans Nzoia County gubernatorial contest on grounds that he had failed the integrity test.

Speaking to the media in Kachibora area, the locals stated that the former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner is unfit to hold any public office.

This follows recent remarks made by the former administrator that have since gone viral on social media.

The residents led by one Alexander Ronoh noted that the remarks were meant to incite two major communities living in the highly cosmopolitan county.

“We are deeply concerned and disturbed by the inciteful remarks made by one George Natembeya, we strongly condemn the remarks,” Ronoh said.

The residents through Ferdinand Wanyisia, who is the Bukusu community peace Coordinator and Loveryne Cherop, a youth leader in Cherang’any constituency have now asked Natembeya to issue a public apology to the electorates.

“Having gone through a bad experience in the past, especially in 2007/2008 Post-Election Violence, we are worried that such remarks may breed and fuel inter-ethnic tension ahead of August elections, Natembeya should be compelled to apologize” they appealed.

They also called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and other law enforcement agencies to summon Natembeya for interrogation.

“We do not want to have a highly charged election period in this county. We appeal to NCIC to summon Natembeya so that he can shed light on his reckless remarks” one of the residents affirmed.

Responding to the allegations, Natembeya stated that he was misquoted, and called for peaceful co-existence.

*My remarks were taken out of context; I did not mean to incite one community against the other” Natembeya said.
