The Roots party has appointed Omar Lali as the coordinator of the Beach Boys Association.

The Lamu-based beach boy, who shot into the limelight after being linked to the alleged murder of businesswoman Tecra Muigai in 2020, will be in charge of the group’s activities countywide, the party said in a statement on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

The statement was issued by the Roots party’s presidential running mate Justina Wamae.

“Beach boys spur up the tourism economy as they are guides offering lengthy tours of the coastline and the marine parks. Others sell African souvenirs such as khangas, Maasai sandals and beadwork. Some of these traders display their wares along the sandy stretch,” the statement reads in part.

Omar Lali’s influence

The George Wajackoyah running mate said Lali’s network would boost the party’s vote basket.

“Omar brings the beach boys vote who are many at times ignored in Kenya’s development agenda. Roots Party of Kenya looks forward to this strategic partnership,” she added.

The appointment comes days after Wajackoyah appointed comedian Wilson Muirani, who is popularly known as Jaymo Ule Msee, as the party’s spokesman.

Wajackoyah said Jaymo, whose real name is Wilson Muirani Gathoni, has a vast experience in media, digital marketing, and political campaign strategy.

“His experience and credentials are an asset to Roots Party as he is aligned to the ideology of the Roots Party and Kenya at large and fully supports the party presidential candidate together with his running mate,” the appointment letter read in part.

Wajackoyah’s increasing popularity

Wajackoyah has become a household name following his promise to legalise bhang if elected in August.

He insists bhang is the solution to revamping Kenya’s ailing economy and settling the country’s ballooning public debt.

The candidate is touted as a third horse in the race slated for August 9, 2022, with pundits saying he is likely to force a run-off.
