The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has condemned the chaos witnessed at Jacaranda grounds on Sunday, June 19 during the Kenya Kwanza rally.

In a statement, the commission has launched a probe into the ugly incident which saw a rowdy crowd from both the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza supporters engaged in violence against each other.

“As a Commission mandated to facilitate peaceful coexistence, we have launched
investigations, and will shortly arrest those who were involved in organizing and executing
the violence,” the statement read in parts.

At the same time, NCIC chairman Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia called on all political parties to not only condemn the actions at Jacaranda but also commit to maintaining political decency during this electioneering period.

“We hereby put politicians on notice that this is not the time for violence as a means of political mobilization. We shall not tolerate the political thuggery exhibited at Jacaranda Grounds yesterday,” the statement further reads.

The mayhem on Sunday was due to confrontations between the two political camps over a double booking of the premises.

Police were forced to lob tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd that had reduced the event to a stone-throwing match.
