Nairobi County retained the overall title in the Seventh edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) Games that ended on Saturday in Kericho County.
Nairobi collected 29 points to emerge the overall winners while Uasin Gishu who also retained their second slot garnered 14 points. Kisumu were ranked third after amassing 12 points.
In last years’ Kicosca games that were held in Kisii County Nairobi led with 32 points, followed by Uasin Gishu with 13 points and the then hosts Kisii collected 10 points to be ranked in third position.
In this year’s Athletics and field events, Uasin Gishu scooped the top position after collecting 186 points while their neighbours Nandi County came second with 113 points as Narok clinched the third slot with 95 points.
Governor Paul Chepkwony was declared the best overall darts player in the 2019 Kicosca games.
Chepkwony said the players and all participants had exhibited high level of discipline and commitment in the games. He said the games were of high standards and congratulated counties that sent their participants to the national event.
On Friday Deputy President William Ruto visited Kericho to check on the progress of the games and said the government would complete construction of stadia across the country in one year. He said sports academies will be established in each county in line with identifying and developing sports talents in a bid to take sports to the next level.
