Two men who were unblocking a clogged septic tank in Embu on Friday, June 17, 2022, died in the process – police have confirmed.

Embu West Subcounty police commander Julius Kyumbule while confirming the incident said the two and another man had been contracted to unblock the sewage.

“It is true that two people have died, the information we have is that they had been contracted to unblock the septic tank before meeting their death,” Kyumbule said.

He revealed that during the process of unblocking the sewage one man fell into the tank prompting the other two to go to his rescue.

Unfortunately, one of the two rescuing their colleague also got stuck inside the tank.

Residents gathered at the scene after the third man raised alarm about two of his colleagues who were stuck in the septic tank.

Embu fire brigade

The police boss stated that authorities had to contact Embu county fire brigade who responded immediately and managed to rescue the lone survivor.

The bodies of the two who died in the tragic incident were taken to Embu Level 5 hospital mortuary pending investigations.

Residents who spoke to K24 Digital at the scene called on the Embu county government to equip all those involved in such activities with requisite skills so that they can be protected in their place of work.
