Two gang groups suspected to be on the payroll of politicians have been placed under the police radar for disrupting rallies and intimidating female campaigners in Nyandarua County.

Speaking during a daylong county conference held on Wednesday, June 15, the County police boss, Omar Orero revealed that two local politicians are suspected to be bankrolling the gangs.

He also assured residents that measures have been put in place to break the gangs before the end of the electioneering period.

This according to him will help curb insecurities in the region in case their paymasters abandon them after the August polls.

Orero further revealed that parts of Kinangop had increased cases of robbery in residential houses and business premises.

“People are breaking into churches to steal musical instruments and public-address equipment,” Orero stated.

Police promise to take action on culprits

He promised to act on any tip-offs from members of the public during and after the electioneering period.

Similarly, Nyandarua County Commissioner Amos Mariba warned politicians and their supporters against vandalizing posters and billboards of their opponents.

He also acknowledged that every politician had a right to campaign regardless of the party they are affiliated to.

“We have observed indiscipline in campaigns, especially those removing other People’s posters. We will arrest any politician and their supporters that we find vandalizing other candidates’ campaign posters and banners. We are neutral but if you provoke us, we shall act with the law that exists,

“We are a democratic country and we should ensure our competitors campaign without hurting them. I urge all aspirants to be tolerant of each other,” Mariba stated.
