A Nairobi lawyer who was recently appointed to the Kenya Kwanza alliance’s National Economic Taskforce by Deputy President William Ruto is dead.
Edward Mwachinga died on Tuesday night, June 14, 2022, Pamoja Africa Alliance (PAA) party leader Amason Kingi confirmed on Wednesday.
Mwachinga is said to have collapsed and died at his home in Nairobi.
A relative intimated to a local media station that the advocate was diagnosed with a heart condition a year ago and had been receiving treatment both locally and abroad.
Mwachinga’s role in PAA
Mwachinga served as the chairperson of the National Election Board of the PAA party.
He was appointed to the Kenya Kwanza task force in mid-May, days after PAA ditched the Azimio la Umoja coalition for the Ruto-led alliance.
He was part of the team tasked with drafting the Kenya Kwanza coalition’s economic blueprint by Ruto ahead of the August 9 presidential election.
Kingi mourned the deceased as a strong-willed scholar who was passionate about changing the lives of the coastal people.
“It goes without saying that as a County, and as a party, we have indeed lost a strong-willed scholar who gave everything when it came to empowering the lives of the Coastal people. May God rest his soul in peace,” Kingi said in a tweet.
