Police in Juja, Kiambu County today seized bhang and heroin inside a house located about two hundred meters from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
In a joint operation by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the sleuths raided the house following intelligence reports and managed to recover the outlawed substances.
Among the drugs seized by the officers are eighty pieces of heroin worth Ksh80k, thirty rolls of bhang and a hundred litres of chang’aa.
Kiambu county police commander Muchangi Kioi said the suspected illegal drug sellers had already sold several jerricans of chang’aa when the raid happened.
Kioi confirmed that drug lords have been selling the outlawed substances to university students, a societal vice he regretted as having resulted in troubling absenteeism in the higher learning institution.
“As you can see, this is a residential area occupied mostly by university students and we have been having a lot of cases of students failing to attend lectures and we suspect many have been introduced to abuse of these substances, the reason we are acting swiftly,” noted Kioi.
The county police boss sternly warned bhang and other illegal drug peddlers that the government will not spare anyone found selling or aiding the sale of substances that not only turn the users into zombies but ones that also deny the country productivity.
He noted that Kiambu has seen a rise in the sale of the outlawed substances averring that police are pursuing the masterminds in the sale to protect both learners and other Kenyans.
The police boss at the same time revealed that the sellers have been sourcing the outlawed substances from Sirare and the transporters evade police roadblocks to avoid being arrested.
“These people have been dodging police as they use routes where police have no roadblocks to facilitate transportation of the illegal drugs. They mostly sell in Githurai, Membley and here in Juja. We are going to break this syndicate by pursuing the masterminds,” he added.
Following the recovery, two ladies and a man were arrested and have been held at Juja police station for interrogation before they are arraigned in court.
“We are also going to arrest the owner of the building where we found the outlawed substances because this criminality cannot happen without their knowledge. House owners should also take caution and screen their tenants lest they also find themselves in the mess,” he warned.
The ‘success’ recovery happened only a week after police in Thika recovered Sh 2.5 million worth of narcotics weighing 86 kilograms at the sprawling Kiganjo village.
