Residents of Makunga area in Kwanza Constituency, Trans Nzoia County on Thursday morning woke up to shocking news of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) candidate who committed suicide.

The 19-year-old student at St. Augustine Maziwa Secondary school is said to have left behind a suicide note detailing the motive behind her action.

The note stated that her classmates were bullying her and had listed some of the names of students.

In an interview with the media, a relative who declined to be identified said their loved one’s health deteriorated prompting her to raise concerns and talk to her.

“Early this month, I noticed her health as not normal and asked her why she was losing weight and she told me school work was draining her,” she said.

She said they were shocked when they found her hanging on the roof of her room in her parents’ house.

“She was such a cool girl, she was very humble and never spoke much. We are still wondering how she resorted to committing suicide,” she added.

Jeremiah Wanyama, a religious leader in that area appealed to young people to go for counselling whenever they have pressing issues instead of taking their lives.

“Our youths should be close to their parents, relatives and even we the religious leaders. Resorting to suicide is not a solution to life problems,” Wanyama said.

Her body has been moved to Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
