Police officers in Nyeri have launched a Manhunt for a robber who left behind an AK-47 rifle after he was overpowered by a victim who he had attacked.

55-year-Old Irungu Mwangi escaped death by a whisker on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, after he snatched the firearm from the robber who had attacked him and made away with his hard day’s labour of Ksh 200.

Irungu was walking home at around 8 pm when he was accosted by a lone gunman who pointed an AK-47 assault rifle at his chest and ordered him to lie down without hesitation.

He obliged the command and when the thug asked him for money he gave him the 200 shilling note that he had.

The thug demanded more cash threatening to shoot Irungu if he didn’t comply. He made a blunder by placing his gun on the ground as he searched for more cash from the victim.

Irungu used the opportunity to grab the AK-47 rifle and turned the situation in his favour. However, he didn’t understand the working mechanism of the firearm.

The thug took off and disappeared into the darkness as Irungu fumbled with how to chamber a round in the AK-47 rifle.
