Residents of Ngong in Kajiado, are now a happy lot after the County government resolved to convert Ngong dumpsite into a recreational facility.

The 5-acre dumpsite, which was closed two years ago, has over the years remained a health hazard for the residents. It is now set to be a public recreation park.

The large dumpsite that was situated in the residential area had witnessed a massive overflow of garbage to the chagrin of suffering residents who have from time to time come out to protest.

Efforts to relocate the dumpsite were also faced with opposition from a section of residents who eked a living from collecting plastics and waste products.

The push and pull between the residents and the county government ended in a court that ruled in favour of the County government.

Jubilant residents who converged at the contested dumpsite have lauded the initiative saying it is a major step in environmental conservation.
