Police in Thika, Kiambu County have recovered Ksh2.5 million worth of narcotic drugs weighing 86 kilograms.

The outlawed substances were seized at the sprawling Kiganjo village by sleuths on patrol in collaboration with members of the public.

According to Kiambu County commander Muchangi Kioi, the drugs were packed inside a vehicle whose doors were open and which police suspect was on an illegal mission of selling the forbidden narcotics.

Speaking at Makongeni police station where the illegal drugs have been held, Kioi said police have in recent times recovered bhang from various stations and warned peddlers to keep away from the vice, citing that full force of the law will be enforced to do away with the criminality.

Police got tip-off

“Police got a tip-off from members of the public that a vehicle whose doors had been opened was packed somewhere for some illegal activities. Our officers moved in swiftly and managed to impound the vehicle and the narcotics it was carrying,” he said.

“Criminals, especially the bhang traffickers, armed robbers among others should know that we are on high alert and we will not give them space to execute their wrongdoings,” he added.

He further urged members of the public to collaborate with authorities by volunteering information. He confirmed that his officers had already launched a manhunt for the occupants of the vehicle who fled after police ambushed it.

He urged members of the public to partner with police in rooting out crime in Kiambu and beyond saying that every member of the society has a duty of not only reporting but also fighting wrongdoings in their areas.

“We will treat the information you give us with a lot of confidentiality and we look forward to having a friendly relationship with members of the public that will help us serve them better,” he added.
