Heads could soon roll at the Nairobi County government after Governor Mike Sonko hinted that he will sack six County executives for not being loyal to him and working with cartels to steal taxpayer’s money.

“I Might fire more than six Executive Committee Members and three chief officers very soon for not being loyal. Imagine a CEC  you trust most being absorbed by the so-called cartels to the extent of making sensitive decisions without consulting me as his boss,” Sonko wrote on his Facebook page.

Higher floors

Nairobi County government has eight CECs meaning only two will be spared if the purge  takes place.

He gave  the example of the Lands and Planning Department which he said has been flouting the Physical Planning Act by allowing developers to put more and higher floors than the zoning of some estates or areas.

“I have information that they do so at a fee of millions per any additional floor, and at some point, the additional floors are even given and shared between the developers and senior county officers for this kind for impunity to go on,” Sonko wrote.

To prove the claim, Sonko said the officers had colluded with a former deputy Governor of Nairobi to allow him put up 15 floors in partnership with some developers along the Kauria Close off Othaya Road in Kileleshwa, while the zoning for this area is four floors.

“Despite several complaints by area residents on this impunity, the development is still on going,” he wrote.

Revenue officers

He said when affected residents write to the county government, the letters of complaints are stamped, received and hidden by the CEC Lands or Chief Officer Planning not to reach to his attention while thousands of residents continue to secretly protest assuming he has ignored their requests.

Sonko has since asked all the affected Nairobi residents associations to write to him and send them by attaching photos and respective LR No.

“I will ensure in cases where the law was flouted in the construction, the buildings are demolished,” he warned.

The governor said he will also be sacking revenue officers and their bosses in Finance department.

“I will be emulating Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who recently sacked 143 officers in the Finance department for incompetence,” Sonko cautioned.
