Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that it shall suspend new registration and change in registration of voters for a period of 10 months.
In a gazette notice, the commission says the suspension will be effective from Wednesday, May 4, 2022, to March 13, 2021.
It will affect voters in the country and those in the diaspora.
“The Commission in a Gazette notice has issued a notification that the application for new registration and change in registration of voters in Kenya and for Kenyan citizens living outside the country shall be suspended from 4th May 2022 to 13th March 2023,” IEBC wrote on Twitter.
The commission says the suspension is aimed at enabling the availability of the register of voters to the public for purposes of verification of both biometric data and particulars of registered voters in accordance with section 6A of the Elections Act, 2011.

This comes days after IEBC issued the deadline for voters’ verification.
In a statement released on Friday, April 29, the electoral body stated that the exercise will last for a period of one month starting May 4.
The Commission urged Kenyans to verify their details so as to ensure that no one is locked out of the August general election exercise.
