President Uhuru Kenyatta, Labour Secretary General Simon Chelugui and Central Organization of Trade Union Secretary General Francis Atwoli led the labour day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.
The trio led workers in celebrating their accomplishments and contributions to the growth of the country.
Atwoli thanked the Head of State for sparing time and gracing the celebrations which is also his last considering that he will exit in August.
“His Excellency, workers and employers are social partners including your government. We appreciate your coming we know today you have a busy schedule,” he said.
The controversial trade unionist also took the platform to make a political statement. Atwoli stated that he is confident that Uhuru will make a political comeback after 10 years into retirement.
“What I say usually comes to pass. I assured my shop stewards here that for sure I know you are just going on leave not exiting and you may come back,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the Federation of Kenya Employers Jackline Mugo asked Uhuru to address push factors that affect the labour market.
“We ask the government to address push factors that affect the labour market eg addressing high cost of living doing business, review income tax,” she said.
