Magufuli consoles fuel tanker blast victims, gives each patient Sh22,000

Tanzanian President John Magufuli visited victims of Saturday’s fuel tanker blast at the Muhimbili National Hospital to console them.

At the hospital, President Magufuli visited the intensive care unit where some of the victims are admitted.

The president toured two other wards where he gave out Tsh500,000 (Sh22,000) to each of the affected patients.

For those in the ICU, Mr Magufuli gave out Tsh2 million (Ksh89,727), to be divided equally between the patients and medical team tending to them.

“You are doing a wonderful job…We pray for a quick revocer of the patient,” Mr Magufuli said, according to Tanzania’s The Citizen.

Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has also ordered formation of a commission to investigate the government’s response to the incident that killed 69 people.

Some of the fire victims have already been buried.
