Govt declares April 29 public holiday to accord Kibaki befitting state funeral

The national government has declared Friday, April 29, 2022, a national holiday to accord the late ex-President Mwai Kibaki a befitting state funeral.

Kibaki’s funeral arrangements are being steered by the National State Funeral Organizing Committee in conjunction with his family. The team announced today that they have concluded preliminary arrangements for the state funeral.

Kibaki’s requiem mass will be held on April 29th at Nyayo Stadium. The late ex-Head of State will then be laid to rest on April 30, 2022, at his Othaya home. The committee stated that Kibaki’s body will lie in state at the National Assembly from Monday 25 to Wednesday 27 April for public viewing.
