Jariel Ndeda Obura of Mang’u High School emerged top in the just-released 2021 KCSE results.
Mang’u produced three candidates in the top 15 students in the country.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Jariel who hails from Vihiga county says he did not expect to lead but was hopeful of good results owed to his hard work.
According to him, his schoolmates believed he would emerge ‘Kenya 1’ and were the first to contact him to congratulate him on his victory.
“I’m very happy and over joyous. I’ve always put an effort into my studies and I would say all the subjects were manageable for me,” he noted.
He says stiff competition in his school steered him to victory noting that he has not always led but was among the top 10 in Mang’u.
Jariel hopes to join Maseno University to pursue medicine.
“Maseno was my first choice. I want to do medicine and perhaps make discoveries. I also expect to do well in life and this is just the beginning,” he added.
