Two people in Webuye, Bungoma County were Sunday evening struck to death by lightning.

The two, Valary Naliaka, 13, and Francisca Wabomba, 21, were killed while heading home from posho mill.

Area Assistant chief Bramwel Kachelo confirmed the incident and urged parents not to allow their children out while it is raining.

Speaking to the press after the incident that happened at 6pm, Kachelo said lightning strikes are common in the area.

“In this season, we have excess rains which are accompanied by lightning. I urge parents to monitor the situation before allowing their children to walk out while it is raining.

“It is a sad day in this area. The deceased are my friends. It’s painful to lose children at such a tender age,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Webuye County Hospital mortuary for preservation.
