Award shows are often conducted to drive conversations around the industry and bring out the fun in competition however, while Diamond Platinumz has abundant talent to boast about, he says he is no longer interested and he is not in the run to win one.

Speaking in London, the Tanzanian acclaimed star who is out to promote his new Ep dubbed FOA(First Of All) noted that he has no desire to compete with local artistes as his ambition is to go international.

According to him, he has no trust in local award shows occasioned by a failure to honour him a while back. He claims he was unfairly pitted against his colleagues despite his accomplishments.

He shared his message on the future of local award shows stating that it will take him time to build the trust again and will continue to boycott in the hopes of enacting change.

Sikua bado na imani na tuzo. Tuzo za Tanzania zilikufa sababu yangu
mimi nilinyimwa tuzo wakapea watu wengine ambayo mimi nilistahili.

“Hizi zinazokuja mpya naziamini vipi? Lazima nizitazame kwanza nione zina uhalisia ama vipi.” he said.

Loosely translated as”(I still have no faith in the current award shows. Tanzania award shows died when they failed to honour me. I deserved the award but they gave it to someone else. I need to take my time to observe the new shows to see if they are authentic or not).”

Diamond was last year nominated for 2021 Best International Act at BET Awards which he lost to Nigeria’s Burna Boy who bagged the award for the third time (Back to Back).
