A 37-year-old woman, who reportedly threatened a Bolt taxi driver with a pistol after charging her Ksh210 for a ride, has been charged with possessing a firearm without a license.

Stella Waithera Kahigi is alleged to have committed the offence at Loresho Estate in Nairobi.

“You are charged that on April 9, 2022 at about 0815 hours at Laxman Apartments within Loresho Estate, was found in possession of a firearm (pistol) make Daisy Serial Number 9002098 without a firearm certificate,” the charge sheet read in part.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, on the material day, the accused person was in the company of a lady friend having alcoholic drinks within Loresho when she placed a request for Bolt ride back to her house.

“Japheth Safari Muthui, the Bolt driver, responded to her request and drove the two ladies to the suspect’s residence at Laxman apartments within Loresho,” the report added.

Upon arrival, the accused whose phone was off at the time had a disagreement with the Bolt driver on the amount he was charging for the ride.

It’s alleged that the driver also had a problem with his gadget and he, therefore, decided to estimate the charges a fact that did not go well with the accused who felt that he was overcharging her.

The police were told that the accused went inside her house with the lady friend allegedly to charge her phone in order to access the Bolt platform to ascertain the amount she was supposed to pay the driver, but instead, they locked themselves inside leaving the taxi driver outside.

The driver stayed put and insisted to be paid before leaving the accused’s compound.

The suspect became irritated and went for her firearm that was in her bedroom and opened a window where the taxi driver was standing and brandished it towards him while ordering him to leave.

The accused later paid the taxi driver Ksh210 as reflected on the Bolt platform but the driver did not take the matter lightly. He reported the incident at Gigiri Police Station.

Stella pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni and was granted a cash bail of Ksh100,000.
