Nairobi hawker in court for possessing bhang-laced cookies

A Nairobi hawker has been charged with being in possession of cookies laced with bhang.

Harry Wathome who has been charged at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi is alleged to have been nabbed by officers from Central Police Station while on patrol.

“You are charged that on April 6, 2022, at around 1424HRS around Koja Roundabout in Nairobi city within Nairobi county was found in possession of 19 cookies laced with bhang, three rolls and 100 grams of the drug,” the charge sheet read in part.

According to a police report read out in court by State Counsel Anderson Gikunda, on the material day, officers on patrol within Koja area spotted the accused carrying a carrier bag and stopped him.

“After stopping him, they introduced themselves to the young man and requested him to allow them to search the carrier bag which is produced in court as evidence,” the prosecutor said.

The court was told that after a search, the officers managed to recover 19 cookies laced with bhang, three rolls of bhang and assorted 100 grams of the drug. They then arrested him and booked him at the Central police station for further interrogation.

The accused pleaded not guilty before Magistrate R.K Ondieki and was granted a cash bail of Ksh30,000.
