Police in Baringo have launched a probe into an incident where a KCSE candidate allegedly escaped the exam room yesterday to source for leakage of Agriculture paper.

In a statement by the DCI, the student from Radat Secondary School identified as Kennedy Ruto is said to have changed his school uniform and put on civilian clothes before jumping over the school fence to join two unidentified persons in the neighbouring compound.

However, the detectives were keen on his actions and immediately followed him but upon seeing the officers, the three took off leaving behind a mobile phone that allegedly had copies of the Geography and Physics papers administered on Tuesday and the Agriculture paper that the candidates sat yesterday.

“A manhunt for the suspect and his accomplices has since been launched with detectives based at the forensic cyber and digital laboratory, joining in the operation,” part of the statement read.

At the same time, detectives in Nairobi arraigned the four suspects who were part of a larger syndicate dubbed ‘Bailing out’ and the ‘Kalee’ group at the Milimani Law Courts following their arrest two weeks ago.

The four were alleged to be responsible for examination malpractice in the ongoing national exams where they were selling exam papers and answers on their social media groups with thousands of followers.

Gideon Tanui, Kevin Kiprotich, Justice Leting and James Obongo pleaded not guilty and were released on Ksh300,000 cash bail and a bond of Ksh 500,000 each with a surety.

Further, the DCI says over 60 mobile phones have so far been confiscated in Mbita, Garbatula and Turkana and that the sleuths are in the process of analyzing them ‘to retrieve further incriminating materials for a watertight case against the suspects.’
