Entertainers have been abuzz with reactions following the appointment of former Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua as the new Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO.

Most are not entirely behind the man who had a troubled tenure with KFCB that saw him unceremoniously exit on August 6, 2021.

Led by boy band Sauti Sol and Eric Omondi, they claim his appointment was a bad move for the industry.

“Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is a disappointment. What did he do for the film? Kenya continues to elevate mediocrity. This is just sad,” Bien wrote.

On his part, Chimano said; ” Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is such nonsense recycling bin inc, that’s what we are.”

Eric lamented that their industry is moving backwards instead of forward.

This country we make two steps ahead and 10 backwards. The blade is the same and if you bring harshness we will go the Will Smith way (He was referring to an incident where Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars award ceremony),” Omondi wrote.

Mutua was appointed as the new MCSK CEO effective Friday, March 25, 2022.

In a statement by the MSCK board, Mutua was appointed after a “competitive” recruitment process.

“Dr. Mutua brings to MCSK a great wealth of experience in leadership, media and communications having served in various top leadership positions both in public and private sectors,” MSCK board chair Lazarus Muli said in a statement.
