Chief Justice Martha Koome has led Kenyans in mourning the death of High Court Judge Lady Justice Beatrice Thuranira Jaden who died in India where she has been receiving treatment for the past few weeks.

In a statement issued on Monday, March 28, 2022, CJ Koome described Jaden as a dedicated judicial officer who rendered her services with exceptional diligence.

“Lady Justice Jaden was diligent, hardworking and demonstrated exceptional commitment to her work. She had on some occasions served in some High Court benches that made pronouncements on complex legal issues that breathed life to the 2010 Constitution, especially in its nascent years,” the CJ says.

Koome has also described Justice Jaden as one who had a quiet but warm personality adding that she always had a smile and a listening ear for those who worked with her.

“I am privileged to have been her classmate having graduated from Law School together in the Law Class of 1987. I can attest to all those qualities of an excellent Judicial officer, a Judge, a friend to so many who have poured out their hearts on social media mourning the Judge since we received the sad news yesterday,” Koome said.

The Head of Judiciary also noted that the deceased was a judge who had a calming effect on others by bringing quiet wisdom to her colleagues.

She also noted that the mother of three was a true description of a virtuous woman who is aptly described in the Book of Proverbs 31.

“Her death is a loss not only to the Judiciary fraternity but to the people of Kenya whom she served with humility, dedication and competence,” the CJ said.
