A KNH theatre official who has practised for three years has been charged in court over a fake KCSE certificate.

Dorcus Nthenya Joseph who appeared at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi is alleged to have forged a KCSE certificate and purported that it was a genuine document that led to her employment.

“You are charged that on unknown dates before February 2, 2022, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya with intent to defraud and without lawful authority made a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate index no. 01113103/057 purporting it to be a genuine certificate issued by Kenya National Examination Council,” the charge sheet read in part.

The Theatre Sterile Assistant who is responsible for assisting the surgeons at the national hospital during surgery on patients was unmasked while renewing her contract at the said hospital.

According to her statement to the police, Dorcus indicated that she joined the hospital as a Sterile Theatre Assistant in 2019 and worked till January 2022 when her contract expired and was told to re-apply for the position.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the accused person was asked to provide her Secondary School Certificate to the hospital’s Human Resource office for the contract to be renewed.

The court was told that on March 1, 2022, Kenyatta National Hospital through the Director of Human resources forwarded a copy of the certificate to Kenya National Examination Council for verification.

The report continues to say that after three days, KNEC wrote a letter to the hospital indicating that the copy of the certificate forwarded to them does not belong to the suspect but belonged to a different person namely Babu Maurice Tatu hence the copy was not genuine.

Dorcus pleaded not guilty before magistrate R.K Ondieki and was released on a bond of Ksh50,000.
