Detectives have commenced investigations into the murder of a 66-year-old director of Ndarugo Plantations in Juja, Kiambu County.

Sudhir Shah was reportedly sprayed with unspecified bullets on the head and stomach near the plantation on Saturday mid-day by an unknown gang riding on a motorbike.

According to John Gachomo, the head of investigations at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi, Shah was in the company of eight other persons including his colleague Francis Michuki, when the incident happened.

He said that after a meeting held inside the plantation, the attendees went near where the incident happened for further deliberations when two persons riding on a motorbike appeared and commanded everyone to lie down.

An officer accompanying the plantation directors engaged the attackers and a fire exchange ensued, injuring Shah.

Gachomo said Shah was rushed to a hospital in Thika town where he succumbed to grave injuries.

“The attendees of the meeting later came to the scene of the incident for further deliberations and in the process, a motorcycle appeared with two passengers one of who was armed with a pistol and who ordered all the nine to lie down. One of the officers accompanying the directors engaged the attackers and a fire exchange ensured injuring one of the directors. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to injuries,” Gachomo said.

The head of investigations revealed that those who attended the meeting recorded statements allowing sleuths to commence investigations into the matter.

“We have commenced investigations to unearth what really happened even as we continue to pursue the attackers. Action that will be taken will be informed by investigations of the findings,” he said.

One of the vehicles that were also sprayed with bullets was towed to Juja police station.

Today, detectives from various DCI units among them homicide, ballistic and special crime departments combed the scene of crime and urged the public to volunteer information to enable police to expedite their probe into the matter.
