Police in Kisumu are hunting for two remandees who escaped from Kodiaga Maximum Prison on Sunday evening.

In an incident that has left authorities baffled, security officers were still trying to piece together details of how the two women slipped through their fingers.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu West OCPD David Nyabuto told K24 Digital that prison officers realized that the two were missing when they were doing headcounts.

The two identified as Christine Adhiambo and Florence Awiti were charged with the offence of robbery with violence and were kept behind bars pending hearing of their cases.

Nyabuto pleaded with members of the public who might have seen the two or who are hiding them to report the matter to them immediately.

“We are asking the public to report to us in case they bump into the two suspects,” he said.

Multi-agency teams led by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been mobilized to help with the search.

It is still unclear how the women managed to escape the heavily guarded facility.
