Shock as a police officer in Suna East, within Migori County has killed his wife and self over an alleged quarrel.

The alleged incident took place at about 3:0am at Kiawa junction within Suna East Sub-county.

Confirming the incident, Migori County Police boss Mark Wanjala said the matter was reported by PC George Mureithi who was on a night patrol around Ambo area that a neighbour had called him that his colleague whom he lived with in the same plot had shot himself in the house.

The police boss said his officers led by Migori OCS rushed to the scene of the incident immediately and established that Antony Mwangi, 29, had killed his wife Maureen Moraa, 27, before turning the rifle on himself.

“The officer had booked off duty at a report office at 2310 hrs and proceeded to the house without handing back his firearm to the armoury,” he said.

Wanjala said the rifle was found at the scene with a magazine containing 13 rounds of 7.62 mm. Spent cartridges were also recovered.

According to the police boss, the neighbours heard a quarrel between the couple before hearing gunshots.

“Today is a very sad day for us since we have lost young souls through something that could have been avoided if he sought help,” he said.
