NMS Health workers issue strike notice

Nairobi Health workers under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) have issued a five-day notice to implement their return-to-work agreement which was signed on September 18, 2020.

In a letter dated February 8, the representatives of the workers led by Boaz Onchari said after the end of 5 days, they will meet to deliberate on the actions that will follow according to the labour acts.

“It is for this reason that we now demand full implementation of the said agreement by latest February 14, 2022, failure to which we shall have no other option but to take an unexpected action,” the letter stated.

According to Boaz Onchari who is the Secretary-General for KNUN Nairobi Branch, they had signed an agreement to return to work it has not been honoured 14 months later.

He said it is against their goodwill and mutual understanding.

“We signed an agreement on 18th of Sep 2020 we signed an agreement with NMS based on the strike that we had. The issues included: medical cover, promotions, resignations, stagnations, and late payment of salaries. We have done a letter to General Badi reminding him that as his term is coming to an end, he has not fulfilled our grievances and the agreement not honored,” Boaz stated.

They have blamed the NMS Health Director Dr. Ouma Oluga for not listening to their decry.

Meanwhile, the Kenya County Government Workers Union – Nairobi branch has written a letter to the office of the Controller of Budget demanding to know why there has been the diversion of staff funds, deduction of salaries, and not paying off per diems resulting in a debt of up to Ksh290,471,990.36.

The office pledged to review the requisition of Nairobi City County Assembly (NCCA) for the withdrawal of the funds of betwen October and December 2021 so as to ascertain whether there was a diversion.
