Prison officer arrested with bhang at Industrial area prisons

A prison officer was on Friday, January 11 nabbed with rolls of bhang at the Industrial area prisons in Nairobi County.

In a police report by K24 Digital, Tobias Mwanje a prison constable was nabbed as he rode a motorcycle into the prison.

The matter was reported by James Njau, a prison officer attached to Nairobi remand and allocation prison.

“He reported that today at around 1600hrs while he was at the entrance gate with colleagues they saw Tobias Mwanje also attached to the facility entering the premises riding a motorcycle,” the report read in part.

The officers became suspicious and intercepted him before he could proceed further into the premises.

They conducted a search on a carrier bag which was hanging on the left side of the motorcycle handle where they recovered one hundred and one rolls of bhang, two packets of rizla papers and five packets of roster cigarettes and about 599grams of bhang wrapped in a polythene paper.

“He was escorted to a senior officer’s office for interrogation while his mobile phone rang. It was received by one of the senior officers where the caller directed him to go at the gate and receive another parcel,” the report further read.

A trap was laid by the officers and Joshua Kala was also nabbed with another a hundred rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang) wrapped in another polythene bag.

The duo was escorted to the police station and placed in custody pending a court hearing.

The report revealed that they will be charged for the offence of trafficking narcotic drugs.
