Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Peter Munya has revealed that he will not resign from the Cabinet to join politics in the upcoming elections.

In a press conference on Wednesday, the former Meru Governor said that he will retain his position in the cabinet to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta till the end of his term.

“I have been reflecting on my political journey, and I have concluded that I will not resign. I want to use my resources and energy to serve this ministry to the end of President Uhuru’s term,” Munya said.

Munya, however, noted that though he will not challenge Governor Kiraitu Murungi for the Meru County governor seat in the coming elections, he will heavily be involved in national politics.

The former governor further revealed that he will support any aspirant vying for the Meru governorship under the Azimio la Umoja movement. He further revealed that he will also be in the boardroom meetings crafting how his party, PNU, can strengthen its relationship with the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja movement.

“I will support a candidate for governor’s seat in Meru, a candidate who is in Azimio and the one who will change Meru. I will also play part in the national politics and will be active in strengthening PNU as we craft the party’s relationship with Azimio,” the CS said.
