MCA sustains serious injuries, woman dies after their vehicle hit giraffe in Tsavo National Park

A Member of a County Assembly on Tuesday sustained serious injuries after getting involved in a road accident that left a woman he was with dead.

Mata ward MCA Chanzu Khamadi and the woman were involved in the accident along Voi-Taveta Highways in Tsavo West National Park after a vehicle they were travelling in hit a giraffe before it veered off the road.

Witnesses said that the Toyota Prado the two were travelling in lost control after hitting the animal before rolling several times off the road and landing into a ditch.

The MCA sustained serious injuries from the accident while the woman died on the spot.

“The woman died on the spot and her body was moved to the Moi County Referral Hospital morgue in Voi,” Coast Regional Traffic Boss Peter Maina said.

“It is not exactly clear what happened that made the two hit the giraffe. We are not so sure the cause but you know, anything can happen when you face a wild animal,” he added.

The police officer revealed that Khamado was rushed to Moi Hospital in Voi before he was transferred to Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa while in critical condition.
