No one was killed when a privately owned Cessna 5Y-CFT crashed at Nova Pioneer International School at Tatu City in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft’s landing gear disengaged about five minutes before landing between Limuru and Kiambu Town resulting in the incident.
According to Ruiru DCIO Justus Ombati, the aircraft was flying from Naivasha to an airstrip within Tatu City and was being flown by a 23-year-old man who was the only occupant on board when the incident happened.
“The plane was being flown by a 23-year-old man from Naivasha to Ruiru. He has been evacuated for medical checkups but is in stable condition,” Ombati said.
Reports indicate that the aircraft belongs to a mattresses-making company within the populous Constituency.
According to Ruiru Sub-County police commander Cecilia Kemboi, the incident happened at 4:20 pm on Thursday, February 3, with zero fatalities reported during the incident.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has since been engaged and is expected to swing into action to further help authorities with investigations on what could have led to the incident that left Ruiru residents shocked.
“We have secured the scene awaiting KCAA to help us conduct investigations as to what may have led to the incident,” Omombati said.
