A Ugandan citizen, who was charged with three counts of unlawful presence in Kenya, possession of an identification card belonging to a Kenyan and having fake currencies, is now waiting for his sentence.
Nyakabinga Kiria admitted to having lost his identification card, a document that would have set him at liberty at the time he was apprehended by Pangani police officers.
Kiria admitted committing the offenses before a Makadara Court senior resident magistrate Lewis Gatheru who read the charges for him.
“You are charged with the offense of being in Kenya unlawfully contrary to Kenyan citizenship and immigration act of 2011 laws of Kenya,” the magistrate ruled.
During his arrest within Ngara area in Nairobi County, Kiria was also found in possession of fake 100 USD which he intended to use.
Kiria, however, told the court that he is a businessman selling clothes within Ngara area and not a thief.
The matter will be mentioned on March 4, 2022, for further directives on sentencing.
