Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth has been arrested. K24 Digital has established that the officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) nabbed Boaz and seven other officials within the Assembly.

A detective privy to the matter said that a night raid was staged inside the office of a senior official in the county where they reportedly carted away files and computers for the finance office.

“The eight are currently at the Migori Police Station following the arrest on Wednesday,” the detective who spoke in confidence as he is not authorized to address the media said.

Police say that the speaker is alleged to have broken into the office of the Assembly Chief Finance Officer and carted away files and computers on Tuesday, February 1.

“He broke into the office at around 3 am while in the company of seven others,” our source said.

The finance officer got wind of what happened and informed police officers that his office had been vandalized by unknown assailants.

Immediately after the raid, speaker Okoth transported the files to his office and locked himself inside his chambers together with the seven.

“When officers arrived they totally refused to open for the officers and slept inside his office until Wednesday early morning when he was nabbed,” the officer said.

It has emerged that the speaker had started accusing the finance officer of misusing Assembly funds.

Mark Wanjala the Migori County Police boss told K24 Digital that the eight are still being grilled and they will be arraigned.

“They have been nabbed and they are currently being grilled,” Wanjala said.
