Gospel singer Emmy Kosgei has come out to support Eric Omondi’s move to ensure media outlets play 75 percent of local content.
Emmy who was speaking on Mediamax’ Emoo FM, noted that she fully supports the move adding that local artistes should not curtain raise for international artistes.
“I support Eric Omondi 100 per cent. Kenyans should support their own like the Nigerians,” she remarked.
Further, the ‘Taunet Nelel’ hit singer who moved to Nigeria eight years ago after her marriage to Nigerian Preacher Apostle Anselm Madubuko noted that, unlike Kenya, Nigerians play 90 percent of their local content.
She says there is a law that regulates media outlets that should also be applied in Kenya.
“Nigerians love their music. They play 90 percent Nigerian music.”
The bill, which was drafted by Eric Omondi, was handed over to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and his Starehe counterpart Jaguar and is set to be tabled before the parliament.
After receiving the bill in November last year, Babu Owino noted that they shall compel other MPs to pass the motion saying the task is now to the artistes to give Kenyans plausible content.
“We’d love to compel the older MPs to ensure we pass this bill that proposes that 75 percent of airtime and airplay should be given to Kenyan artists. Now Kazi is on the Kenyan artists. We expect you produce quality music, danceable and seductive one,” Owino stated.
