Concern in Yala as teacher kills self after reportedly defiling his student

A 35-year-old teacher from Gem, Yala Sub-county has committed suicide after allegedly defiling a Form Two student.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Calvin Kisianga Okello who was the girl’s class teacher is said to have hanged himself using a rope on Monday, January 24 after reportedly defiling her the previous day.

“Kindly be informed that today at around 1030hrs within Ramula Sub Location, East Gem Location, Yala Sub County, a teacher Mr Calvin Kisianga Okello aged 35 years at Ramula Secondary School committed suicide by hanging himself using a rope after he was found to have defiled a Form Two student aged 17 years on Sunday,” the police report read in part.

The police report further states that there was a riot at the institution following the incident when police went to collect Okello’s body. .

“There was a riot. DCI and area OCS visited the scene to collect the body but members of public refused. CIPU officers were called for reinforcement. Two GK vehicles from Siaya Police Station were also called for reinforcement but they were destroyed by members of the public,” the police report further stated.

However, police managed to quell the aggression from members of the public and collected the body which was taken to Yala Level Four Hospital mortuary.
