Police in Narok on Friday January 21, 2022 gave details of how they chased after a motor vehicle that was ferrying bhang worth Ksh9.3million from Kuria to Nairobi.

In a police report seen by this reporter, the police narrated how they were forced to shoot and deflate the vehicle’s tires in order to stop the Land Cruiser TX after the driver defied orders to stop.

This led to the arrest of two suspects namely; Peter Mwangi Kuria and Bonface Wegesa Kuria aged 63 and 28 respectively.

The officers involved in the chase were drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and regular police, who are attached to Lolgorian Police Station, Transmara in Narok County.

“A combined team of DCI sleuths and Kenya police officers under the command of Pius Mbithi while acting on intelligence laid an ambush at Gen trading center with an intention to intercept Motor Vehicle of registration number KDC 125X Toyota Prado white in color that was conveying Cannabis Sativa from Isibania to Nairobi,” the report read in part.

The officers tried to stop the motor vehicle, the driver defied and sped off towards Lolgorian Town direction.

A chase ensued and an officer identified as Jumbe Brown attached to the DCI fired one round of 9mm from his Jericho pistol to flatten the front tire.

“313 Kilograms of Cannabis sativa (bhang) was found stuffed in eleven 90 kilogram nylon sacks with a street value of Sh9.3 million,” the report said.

Police said that no one was injured or no property was destroyed.

“The motor vehicle and suspects have been identified as Lolgorian Police Station,” the report revealed, adding that the matter was being dealt with DCI Transmara South in Narok County.
