Witness reveals list of prominent persons Jowie was manning as undercover security personnel

More details continue to come up in the ongoing cross-examination process of witnesses in late Monica Kimanis’ murder trial of Joseph Irungu alias Jowie and former Citizen TV reporter Jacque Maribe.

While testifying in the court, a witness identified as Brian Kasaine Spira told Justice Grace Nzioka that he knew Jowie as his neighbour at Royal Park and as someone who was working as undercover security personnel.

He says, Jowie also told him that he once worked in a Dubai private Military.

“He later informed me that while in Kenya, he used to be guard politicians including Senator Joyce Lay and MP Babu Owino. I have also seen him severally in the company of John Muhoho,” Brian told the court. 

He narrated to court that in July 2018, Joseph Irungu went to his residence and found a pistol holster which he later borrowed after informing him he was also a licenced gun holder.

He says, Jowie requested the gun in order to perfect his skills in firearm stripping and assembling as well as close door combat.

“Since I knew he was an undercover officer, I agreed and gave him my pistol which he kept for two days before returning it saying he had cleaned it for me,” he claims.

Jowie later borrowed the firearm again on September 9, 2018, but this time, he kept it for a longer time since Brian had travelled upcountry.

Speaking on the fateful day Monica met her death, Brian claimed that Jowie gave him a WhatsApp call at around 2:00 am to enquire if he had paraffin or anything inflamable like air refresher in the house.

“I got surprised at such request of those items by him such late hours,” he posed.

Later during the day at around 3:00 pm, he met Jowie along the corridors on his way to his house.

He said Jowie seemed to be in deep thoughts and distracted since he was standing with his head facing the ground.

“I asked him jokingly why he was asking for paraffin at 2:00 am the previous night, and he said, ‘tulikua job fulani na Muhoho na nikama alidunga mtu kisu‘ he said.

He claims Jowie also said; “nilitaka kuchoma vitu fulani lakini nilituma air freshener,” while pointing towards the empty plot across their house.

While narrating how Jowie shot himself using his gun, he tells the court that on September 21, 2018, at about 1.00 am he heard his gate shaking while asleep with someone screaming in agony only to find Jowie lying bleeding and in pain.

He said Jowie called out his name and told him to ‘secure the weapon’ and in the process, he saw several bullets scattered on the floor only to find out it was the pistol that Jowie had borrowed.

He later rushed Jowie to Nairobi West Hospital in the company of Jackie Maribe and his wife.
