A 37-year-old woman who was arrested while stashing a pillow on her stomach to look pregnant at KNH labour ward has been arraigned in court.

Elizabeth Syokau Musembi is alleged that on September 23, 2021, at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi was found stashing a pillow on her belly to look pregnant while heading to the Labour ward at the hospital.

Investigating officer Jackline Makumba claims the lady who faked the pregnancy is a mother of three children and has a husband according to documents she tabled in court.

Jackline also told senior principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi that upon taking her for a pregnancy test at the hospital she tested negative.

“The suspect was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for a pregnancy test and the doctors recommended that she be taken to Mathare Hospital for mental examination, “the affidavit read in parts.

According to court documents tabled in court, the police believe that the respondent was at the hospital with the intention of stealing a baby.

The police sort 5 days to detain the suspect to complete investigations claiming that they are yet to take the suspect to Mathare Hospital for mental examination to establish if she is sane.

“Considering the nature of the application,I find that it has merit and detain her at Capital hill police station for 3 days to complete investigations,” the magistrate ruled.
