Two media impostors were on Friday charged in a Nairobi court with giving false information and forging a Media Council of Kenya (MCK) identification card.

Thomas Ochieng Owino and Fred Odanga Azelwa who appeared before Milimani senior principal magistrate David Ndungi denied the charges levelled against them by the state.

The prosecution alleges that on July 9, 2021, at KICC, the accused persons jointly informed James Maina Macharia (media relations officer at the Senate) that they were members of MCK, intending to cause him to allow them to enter the premises.

Fred is also facing two other counts of forgery and uttering a false document.

The charges against him state that at an unknown date and place in Nairobi County, with intent to deceive, he forged a certain media card purporting to be a media card from the Media Council of Kenya.

The last count states that on July 9, 2021, at KICC, he knowingly and fraudulently uttered a forged Media Card purporting to be the media card from MCK to Macharia.

The magistrate ordered each of them to be released on a bond of Ksh 100,000 or cash bail of Ksh 50,000 pending the mention of the case on October 8.
