Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has accused Members of Parliament of leading from the forefront in the list of Kenyans flouting Covid-19 health protocols.

While rendering his submission on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, September 14, Ole Kina said MPs enjoy themselves in pubs way beyond the stipulated curfew time.

“The issue of curfew is quite saddening because of the way the enforcement is being practised,” the Senator said.

He argued that while other Kenyans who work late into the night are arrested on their way home after curfew hours, MPs are exempted even when they flout the set regulations.

“We, politicians, are guilty of this. We have joints that we go and drink and we can drink in those joints until 3 am…very senior people. But there are other joints which are closed at 7 pm,” the MP said.

Ole Kina stated that there are certain areas in Nairobi like Ruaka, Kilimani and Ngong where pubs and restaurants operate for almost 24 hours.

However, the Senator was cut short as he was making his submission by Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo who asked him to name the said ‘very senior’ people who stay behind the closed doors of pubs after curfew.

“Can Ole Kina please share the names of these very senior persons who stay behind pubs past curfew and cannot be arrested by police,” Madzayo posed.

In his reply, Ole Kina pointed out the arrest of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja in 2020 at Ladies Lounge in Milimani area arguing that the arrest of those who flout curfew rules is selective.
