The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has announced that it has finally nabbed Robert Mganga, a prime suspect in the gruesome murder of three men in Kilifi’s Junju B village. The suspect went into hiding after committing the heinous acts in July 7, 2021.
Detectives nabbed the suspect on Friday September 10, 2021 at 10:30 am in his hideout at Ambuja Court, in Tassia’s Fedha Estate. He previously evaded a police trap prompting the investigations body to assign his manhunt to the elite Special Service Unit.
“In a sting operation mounted by Special Service Unit (SSU) detectives, Mganga was finally cornered yesterday at around 10:30am. He had previously escaped a police dragnet prompting the DCI to unleash the elite Special Service Unit for his manhunt,” a post by the DCI read.
Mganga is believed to have masterminded the gruesome murder of 46-year-old Kilifi businessman and farmer Sidik Anverali Mohammed Sidik, James Kazungu Kafani a land agent in his late fifties and another unidentified man of Indian descent, believed to be Sidik’s chauffeur.
Detectives claim that Mganga and his gang, set Sidik’s car, a white Toyota Fielder, on fire after murdering its occupants.
The three victims are said to have been on a land buying mission and had toured the piece of land that Sidik intended to buy, before they were attacked by a machete wielding mob that hacked them to death.
According to the account of eyewitnesses, Kazungu pleaded with the mob in their local Giriama dialect to spare their lives. Their plea fell on deaf ears as the assailants were determined to eliminate them.
The lifeless bodies of the three were discovered by the roadside near Junju secondary school, where it is believed their attackers dragged them to.
The investigative body reports that forensic processing of the crime scene and analysis from the forensic evidence gathered pointed at Mganga as the key suspect.
“The horrifying scene was processed by Crime Scene detectives immediately after the murder, with the forensic evidence gathered and analyzed at DCI’s forensic lab pointing at Mganga as the key suspect,” the DCI statement read in part.
Detectives believe that the prime suspect will divulge crucial information that will lead to the arrest of his accomplices. The investigators have assured the kin of the slain businessmen that they will leave no stone unturned in the investigation of the murders.
