The prime suspect in connection to the gruesome murder of four young men in Kitengela, Isinya Sub County, will be charged with murder.

Benson Melonyie,40, was arraigned at Kajiado Law Courts today before Resident Magistrate Becky Cheloti who closed the 14-day miscellaneous window application by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers.

The suspect was thereafter arraigned before the Kajiado Principal Magistrate Irene Kahuya who preferred murder charges against him.

Magistrate Kahuya directed that the suspect takes a murder plea on September 9, at the Machakos High Court.

The suspect will undergo a mental assessment test before the due date of taking the plea.

The slain four bikers’ families and friends flocked the courtroom carrying banners bearing images of the deceased.

“We want more suspects arrested and prosecuted. One person cannot execute four people using crude weapons, the heinous act must have been committed by several people. I trust that justice will be served,” said Lucy Wanjiru, mother of two murdered brothers.

On August 7, two brothers Victor Mwangi Wanjiru (25years) and Fredrick Mureithi Wanjiru (30years) along with their two other friends Mike George Onduso (29years) and Nicholus Kyengo Musa (28 years) were allegedly lynched by irate residents of Enkamuriaki village on suspicion they were livestock thieves.

It later emerged that the four friends were well known to the villagers and frequently visited the area.

Isinya sub-county police commander Charles Chepkongā€™a says preliminary investigations have established the four were not thieves but the motive of the brutal murder remains unknown.

A detective privy to the investigations has intimated to K24 Digital that five suspects that are on police radar over the incident are on the run and are being sought by detectives.

Detectives who spoke on anonymity says the five suspects were placed on the murder scene through mobile data analysis.

“We are optimistic that we will soon catch up with suspects who are in a hideout. They may run but not for long,” the detective said.

Detectives further say unravelling the murder has been an uphill task since residents have treated the matter as a communal issue and refused to corporate with detectives.
