Burial and funeral ceremonies will only take two hours in Trans Nzoia, County Commissioner Sam Ojwang has directed.

Commissioner Ojwang has also directed that night vigils stand banned, a move that may spur conflict between authorities and residents who are keen on upholding Abaluhya traditions.

The County Commissioner said the move aims at curbing the spread of Covid-19 related deaths with every six deaths out of ten deaths in the county being linked to the pandemic.

“There is no need to stay with a corpse overnight as if you are watching a nice movie or film. When we die our business has ended and a body should be interred in less than two hours after being removed from the morgue.”

He further directed that only 50 mourners will be allowed at funeral ceremonies.

He further directed that only fifty mourners should be allowed in such ceremonies citing the move by locals to swarm funeral ceremonies.

The county boss further warned local administrators who would not adhere to the new regulations that they will be dismissed from service.

“Am warning chiefs and their assistants of dire consequences if they allow more than fifty people in funeral services in their areas of jurisdiction,” he said.
