Two Embu brothers: Cecily Mbarire writes to IG Mutyambai to establish cause of death

Nominated Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire has written to the Inspector General f police Hillary Mutyambai requesting for answers on the death of two brothers in Kianjokoma Embu North.

In a letter dated 4th August ,2021, Mbarire told Mutyambai that the mysterious death of Benson Njiru Ndwiga and Emmanuel Mutura Ndwiga has raised tension in the community because there are no answers being given on how the two met their death.

“The explanations given so far as to the circumstances leading to the untimely and unfortunate death of the two young men are not in any way convincing and point to a major cover up by the police,” the MP said.

Mbarire further stated that the death of the two brothers has caused tension in the community leading to demonstrations in Kianjokoma town where businesses and normalcy were grounded after police dispersed demonstrators with teargas.

“I therefore write to request an immediate and independent investigation on this grave matter. I further request an autopsy by government in the presence of an independent family pathologist. I hope your office will treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves,” Mbarire said.

On Thursday, August 5, a contingent of police officers drawn from the GSU were deployed in Kianjokoma to calm the situation after demonstrators set on fire a police vehicle belong the Manyatta police post yesterday during protests.

The residents are accusing police for causing death of the two promising young men after they were arrested on Sunday for violating curfew hours.

After the arrest their bodies were found in Embu level 5 hospital mortuary.

On Wednesday, Runyenjes Member of Parliament Eric Muchangi tabled a statement in Parliament requesting for investigations over the matter.

He said it is unfortunate for two young men to die in hands of police who should have protected them from harm.

Last night the locals engaged police in running battle where they set on fire one personal vehicle at Kathagari police post.
